We’ve tried and tested Cellucor C4 pre-workout to find out if it really is as good as they say.
We’ve had a number of people test this pre-workout whilst doing their daily gym sessions to bring you an honest Cellucor C4 pre-workout review.
Each experience is different so let’s find out if Cellucor C4 Original is a good pre-workout.

Silver, reflective tub with a yellow label across. The reflective silver parts are sort of mirrored, obviously not made from glass but good enough.
It is quite a simple design but it looks decent, it looks like high-quality materials have been used and it doesn’t look cheap.
The tub is a lot smaller than I expected, seeing it on the internet it looks like it would be slightly larger.
We put it next to a penny to give you an idea of its size.
This pre-workout contains 1.6g of Beta Alanine, 1 gram of Creatine Nitrate, along with a gram of Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate. All in all the ingredients list looks pretty strong, even if the caffeine levels are low.
Vitamin B is linked to energy production, however, it is important to highlight that you probably won’t gain energy from B vitamins unless you have a Vitamin B deficiency. Vitamin C is known for a speedy recovery after exercise, it is required for the growth and repair of tissues.
C4 Cellucor has an explosive energy blend which contains: Caffeine Anhydrous (160mg), L-Tyrosine, TeaCor™ Tetramethyluric Acid. Caffeine is known to improve focus and alertness. Many other pre-workouts contain a lot more caffeine than C4 Cellucor. However, it has an impressive blend of Vitamins C, B12, B3 and folic acid.

CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine, Micronized Creatine Monohydrate, Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate, Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid), Polydextrose, Flavours, N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine, Caffeine Anhydrous, Anti-caking Agents (Silicium Dioxide and Calcium Silicate), Sweeteners (Acesulfame Potassium and Sucralose), Vitamins (Ascorbic Acid, Folic Acid, Nicotinamide, Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate, Methylcobalamin), Colour (Brilliant Blue).
Take one serving (1 rounded scoop) of C4 Original, mixed with 150-200ml of water 20-30 minutes before training. Food Supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. Some individuals may experience a harmless tingling sensation, which is attributable to beta-alanine. DO NOT EXCEED RECOMMENDED DAILY DOSE.
Taste & Mixability
I personally really liked the taste of this Cellucor C4, it tasted sweet with a little sour twang which worked well together. It reminded me of something from my childhood.
I found the powder mixed really easily, leaving a slight residue behind.
There were no lumps and the little bit of residue that was left didn’t really affect the texture. This is probably one of the best tasting pre-workouts I have tried so far, especially when considering the mixability and texture.
A lot of pre-workouts don’t mix well and leave residue or lumps, so Cellucor has done a good job here.
I did not feel an instant energy boost but by the time I got to the gym I was completely focused and alert, this pre-workout packs a punch.
It helped me to lift the heaviest weights so far and I completed a long workout, without feeling completely drained afterwards.
This was my first time back at the gym after around 5 weeks off – normally after a break from working out I have to lower my weights a little.
I didn’t have to lower my weights at all, I lifted some weights I was lifting when I last went to the gym and in other places, I was lifting heavier!
I was completely focussed and engaged in lifting, I honestly felt great afterwards and did not experience a crash or any kind of shakes.
I didn’t feel exhausted after my workout either. With regular use, this could really help boost my workouts and help me to reach my targets. It does what it says on the tin!
I felt a slight pump from Cellucor, that could be to do with lifting more but I’m assuming it was the pre-workout.
I’d give this pre-workout an 8.5/10, for me, it really helped with my workout and made me focus. I felt really good after my workout.
The packaging states some users may experience a slight tingling sensation which is said to be harmless.
It is important to note that everybody reacts differently to pre-workouts. Side effects may be dependant on the person. Some may experience itchy body parts or a mild headache.
When I first tried C4 Cellucor I noticed a slight tingle in my hands, obviously the beta-alanine kicking in. It started in the middle of my palms, around 10 minutes after taking, and then spread to my whole hand, it just felt like I had pins and needles in my hands.
By the time I got to the gym the tingle had almost gone – 20 minutes later it had fully gone. It didn’t affect my workout at all, it just felt a little weird at first.

Other Notes – “I normally train 2 hours after eating a meal with carbs, but today I trained on an empty stomach. I noticed no difference in my strength and stamina and I would have to say the PWO must have had an effect on that as it allowed me to complete my usual workout without feeling weak.”

Is Cellucor C4 a good pre-workout?
We all agreed that we definitely felt more energetic during our workouts. This pre-workout made us feel more alert and helped push us in our workouts.
We felt more focussed and motivated to carry on, it prolonged our workouts and helped some of us reach new personal bests. However, it did lack on the pumps, not one of us felt a real difference in terms of pumps.
Cellucor C4 meets most of its targets, just lacks in the pump area. In terms of aiding in a decent gym session, it helps improve performance and ability.
It is easy to see that with regular use this pre-workout will improve your overall ability and fitness levels, pushing you to the next level. It is obvious to see that it can push you out of a plateau and help reach targets.
